Our ideas about gender, gender roles and gender stereotypes, are shaped by society. Children's media, such as books, are often a primary learning source for young minds and help teach children about the world around them. Because children are so impressionable, how the author's of these books portray characters or situations is crucial to influencing the younger generation's ideas and understanding of the world. The purpose of this study is to determine whether children's books take on more traditional gender-role attitudes, egalitarian (gender neutral), or transitional gender-role attitudes (a mixture of both ideals).
